Hello I am 25 years old and I was raised in a family in which emotional boundaries weren't too healthy for example, if I were to do anything risky, my mother would feel offended and in some cases cry and make me feel guilty. Currently, I am dating a great guy that my mother has not met since she lives 5 hours away from where I live. I wish I could tell all the things I think about my guy but I am always concerned that telling her will initiate a series or worries. Last week, she asked me if I was having sex with him and I lied, I responded that I was not but I made clear that I wouldn't discuss that with her, and she was not happy with it. I am not sure what do, lately she calls me at 9:00 or 10:00pm especially during the weekends with some excuse, I think she is trying to check on me. Any suggestions as to how I should deal with her? I am not sure if I should continue lying or just simply continue to establish and reaffirm the boundary of my personal privacy. How to deal with the calls too? If I turn off my phone, I am afraid she will begin calling all of my friends or just worry excessively. I do not like this codependency especially because I am an independent adult. Help please.
