Dancehall is a genre of music produced in Jamaica. It is derivative variation of reggae, which talks about political and faith based topics (but not nearly as much as roots reggae would). It primarily started to appear in the mid 1980s, digital sounds grew to become more well-liked, transforming the 'sound' significantly, with digital dancehall. The tempos became significantly swifter in rate. In the mid 90s with the recognition of dancehall artists like Sizzla and Capletona relationship progressed  between dancehall and Rastafarianism.

Some of the greatest dj's of the initial dancehall era, Yellowman and Eek-a-Mouse, chose humour compared to violence. Yellowman turned out to be the first Jamaican dj to be authorized to an American  label, and for a short time observed a stage of popularity in Jamaica to that of Bob Marley's. The early 1980s also saw the breakthrough of female dj's in dancehall music, like: Sister Charmaine, Lady G.

Today, dancehall music has ground in its reach throughout the planet as is accepted in both music and tradition. Although flourishing on quite a few fronts it however has very far to go well before being regarded mainstream.
