1  General Category / General Discussion / Shopping For Bird Supplies at the Pet Store on: May 31, 2010, 07:55:55 PM
No matter what kind of pet you have, you have to go to the pet store for them. Even though they are different from any other type of animal, birds need supplies as well. Knowing what you need for your bird is very important.

Learn As Much as You Can

You need to learn everything you can about what your bird is going to need, preferably before you even buy the bird itself. Going to a pet store to gather information is a great idea. You will be able to find lots of products and magazines that will help you on your way to being a successful pet owner.

What Kind of Bird Do You Have?

There are different supplies for different types of birds. Your shopping cart will look very different if you are shopping for a parrot than it would if you were shopping for finches. It is very important that you get your bird the right products.

When you go to the pet store, just be sure that they carry products for the type of bird you have. If they don't, or if they seem unsure what your bird needs, find a different store.

Buying Food

When you are buying food for your bird, try to get them something that is high-quality and has a variety of things in it. Most of the time providing different seeds, nuts, and fruits to your bird is good depending on its dietary needs. This wide variety is more important for some birds than others. For example, a small breed like a canary needs a good seed mix, but may not require the fruits and nuts that tropical parrots should be provided.

Check out the variety of bird foods that a pet store carries and see how much of it is suitable for your bird. Also, if you don't find what you're looking for, but you like the store, consider asking them if what you are looking for can be ordered.

Toys and Treats

Like any animal, birds enjoy having treats and toys. In fact, considering that birds have to spend so much time in a cage, these are crucial to their happiness.
2  General Category / General Discussion / Birds Are a Great Source of Food For Human Beings on: May 31, 2010, 07:55:40 PM
Birds are the only creatures which fly in the air. They make their own nests. Their nests are different in shape and size. They need different environment as well as temperature. Some of them used to live in hot circumstances whereas others like cold weather. Their nests are well furnished. They cannot make their own food. They depend on others for food. They also live like families as human being. They manage their matters better than man does. They are wise and intelligent. They are more civilized than human being. Some of them live in colonies as honeybee. They also bring up their kids and take much care of them. They teach them how to search food. Planes fly on the same principle as birds. They also pray God in the morning. They sing sweat songs. They possess a great quality of love. They are model for the human beings. They have different ages. They have different body structures. Forests are the best habitat of them. They like natural environment. Some of them also live with human beings. Water and food are their basic requirements. They build their nests near water. They observe the environment before build a nest. They die when the storm comes. They manage things, which protect them from storms and rains. They are the trained architectures. They have knowledge of different kinds. They are beautiful creature. We keep them as pet in our homes but we should not keep them in prison. It is cruelty and man should think about it. They are a great source of food for humanity. God has made them for us. We should love them. We should provide proper them an environment. They have right to live as human being.
3  General Category / General Discussion / How to Race Pigeons - The First Training Toss on: May 31, 2010, 07:55:11 PM
If any of your birds are still unhappy with the baskets or seem unhealthy then do not risk flying them. It is better to be sure that your pigeons are healthy enough to fly home than to risk flying them because you were impatient.

Before training begins the racing pigeons need to be wing stamped (Association rules) and vaccinated against paramyxovirus (legal requirement).

Give the birds a practice toss from the other end of your garden, in sight of their loft, just to get them used to being basketed and released. From here they can start to be trained further afield.

Their first proper training release should be done at around 5km from the loft and should go as follows:

   1. It should take place mid morning to give them plenty of time to return home before nightfall.
   2. Fed half their normal rations and given no morning exercise. By limiting the amount of food they eat you will increase their desire to get home.
   3. Weather should be clear with a light wind and minimal cloud cover.
   4. At the liberation point remove the basket from your car and put it on the floor. Leave it for around fifteen minutes to let your pigeons calm down and get their bearings. This is a very important step as birds released as soon as the basket is put on the floor will be scared and excited and will fly off without a clue where they are.
   5. Ensure that back at the loft the racing pigeons must enter through the trap.

On their first few training flights you will notice that it will take your racing pigeons longer than expected to return home. If you have followed my instructions then you need not worry, they will return faster each time and the amount of racing pigeons going missing will be minimal (you will have to accept, however, that sometimes racing pigeons can get lost and not return, unfortunately).
4  General Category / General Discussion / Before You Start Keeping Ducks on: May 31, 2010, 07:54:56 PM
Long-tailed ducks are mid-sized sea ducks; they have a more tapered body than do most sea ducks and a short neck and short bill. Males are 40-53 cm long, not counting the long tail; females are 38-43 cm. An adult weighs 715-1000 grams.

Long-tailed ducks have the most complex molt of any species of waterfowl with three different plumages during the year. Both the male and female have distinctly different breeding and winter plumages, but only the male has, as its name implies, two slim and elongated central tail feathers. From October through March, the male's basic plumage is about equally black and white. It has a pink band around its dark bill that is more prominent in winter.

By April, the breeding plumage emerges and the male becomes mostly black-brown with a large white/gray cheek patch and white flanks and belly. As summer progresses, its head and neck become whiter and its flanks a darker gray. Plumage of females, like males although less pronounced, is predominantly white in the fall and winter and brown in the spring and early summer. Light areas on the head and neck are more extensive during the winter months. Both males and females have unpatterned dark wings.

Long-tailed ducks are the most vocal sea duck, with a melodious yodeling by males that resembles ow ow owoolett. Until recently, this sea duck was known as the Oldsquaw in North America. Its name was officially changed to be consistent with the European common name.
5  General Category / General Discussion / How to Win at Monopoly on: May 31, 2010, 07:54:19 PM
Taking risks is a part of monopoly as much as it is a dimension of life. Indeed, no one ever stumbles while sitting in an armchair. If you are too conservative, you may always be the bridesmaid in monopoly. To win with monopoly, sometimes you need to give your opponent the chance to win or at least make him or her feel that he could.

The strategies that you use depend on the quality and guile of your opponents and the situation on the board. Winning monopoly is not dependent on red, yellow, blue, railway stations or airports, but on your exploitation of opportunities and mitigation of threats. The following tips can be the difference between winning and early bankruptcy.

1) Negotiation skills

If you cannot get favourable terms of trade in Monopoly, you would have to get a Monopoly by landing on all properties of one colour or having them distributed to you if you play the short version. That's hardly likely. Knowing how to bargain with other players is essential to your success. You can bargain with highly skilled players and simply exploit the not-so-clever ones through trade.

2) Trade to increase your chances of a monopoly or increase your bargaining power

Power lies in choices and options available. When you trade with a player, you do not always have to get the Monopoly from the same negotiation. For example, if you have two of three green properties and one of the orange, you can sell the two properties to the player who had the other green property for a stash of cash. Make sure his liquid cash is fairly low after that. Remember what I stated about giving others a chance. It normally turns out to be the rope by which they hang themselves.

Some people try not to give up any property at all when they trade. If you're playing computer monopoly, that's fine. Human players are a different proposition and they may regularly decline to trade with you unless you appear to give them some power. You can also use trading with one player to make another player want to do business with you. Good opponents are not likely to trade unless you have property they want.
