There is a big demand for life coaches these days. Countries like Canada, United Kingdom and United States are now producing more life coaches every year to keep up with the growing demand from people who seek for advice and self-help. If you are the type of person who loves to reach out to people in need of support, then life coaching could be a good fit for you. To get started, here are some things that you need to consider.
Just like any other career in this world, education is very important in order for you to achieve the things that you want. Also, clients will be more likely to trust your abilities if you have the right credentials. You can take up a bachelor's degree in psychology, or if you want to master a particular field, you can choose to earn more units in areas like personal coaching, career coaching and leadership coaching. It will also be more helpful if you attend some seminars related to life coaching and become certified as a life coach.
Once you have acquired the right education, you can now proceed to having a coaching career. However, it is very important that you have the right reasons for entering this kind of endeavor. Your main reason should be to help people, not merely to make a lot of money. You need to have a genuine interest and to be certain that the actual process of coaching will appeal to you. Otherwise you will only be wasting your time and money, and you will fail in the long run. Remember, this career involves real people, with real life issues.
Lastly, gain some relevant experiences first before actually handling your own clients. This means starting off by being an associate to some expert life coaches you know. Ask them if you can help them out in dealing with their clients. In this way you not only gain experience, you also gain more knowledge that you can use in the future.
When you feel that you are more than ready, then start by enlisting one or two clients at a time. Eventually you can expand your practice as you receive positive word-of-mouth publicity from your happy clients.
