Hello. I've found this article interesting for me.. maybe it will be interesting for someone of you, future dog lovers... Wink

Choice Of Dog’s Breed

For centuries, dogs were brooded specifically for certain purposes: ones as watchmen or shepherds, others for hunting, third, simply because they looked nice and were good companions. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes. Sort of basic features like barking, characteristic sleep pattern or communication methods, combine all the dogs, but the behavior of dogs of various breeds is different.

Just behavioral characteristics underlie the choice of dogs, although in different countries they have a slightly different requirements to dogs of the same breed evaluating their behavioral and physical qualities. This is due to different gene pools as well as special attention being paid to either features of breed in the selection.
Interestingly, the further behind the physical type of dog from the original wolfish type, the less remains typical signals (such as position of subordination), used by dogs in communicating with each other.

CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN DOG’S OWNER AND ITS BREED

While selecting a dog appropriate for your lifestyle, it is necessary to take into account certain factors. Probably it is worth to pay attention on those features of breed, such as reactivity (speed and intensity of reaction in response to irritants), aggressiveness (hostile or destructive behavior), “puppyness” (playfulness and willingness to obey) and the hunting instinct (congenital craving for other living beings).

REACTIVITY. Dogs with high reactivity have a strong inclination to protect its territory. They can often bark, demand attention and require large and permanent physical loads and constant stimulation.

AGGRESSION. Dogs of aggressive breeds may be ideal watchmen or guards, but tend to dominate and not very suitable as a family, especially when their aggressive aim at people.

“PUPPYNES”. These dogs are often highly dependent on the owners and so they can not be left alone for a long time. Well-suited to life in the family.

HUNTING INSTINCT. Dogs with strongly developed hunting instinct will chase for small animals, including household, and they can bite to death them. In some cases, as mentioned above, this behavior can be directed to children.

It is important to remember that not every dog is a typical representative of his breed. When choosing a puppy of breed you fancy it is very important that you liked his parents. Also, visit the puppies several times, observe them and then make your selection.

It is best if you have the opportunity to choose a puppy from the litter - directly from the nursing she-dog. Usually puppies are taken away from mother between eight and ten weeks.

However, in such a tender age, not all could be considered, particularly for those puppies, about where the future owners have ambitious plans, participation in exibitions, tribal work, etc. In such cases, many breeders, expecting to get more high price than for normal young animals, agree to hold up to 4-6 months.

Anyway, preferably in advance to get acquainted with the future pupil, if it possible, to invite to seeing your good friend, who understands dogs, and better still, the veterinary doctor. With their help you can selectpuppy from a litter, which will appears you the most promising. It is recommenred to mark it ( if he has a bright parts on its wool just use brilliant green).

If you can choose a puppy from several litters, prefer litter with 6-10 puppies. Small quantity may be an evidence of the generic issues (stillbirths, premature), and too large posterity she-dog would be difficult to fully bring up. Ask there were stillborn puppiesin the litter, how many of births die before weaning and for what reasons. If puppies were bottle-feeding, you should ask why.

If you get male dog check it for cryptorchidism: in normal circumstances, at the age of the month and a half, both testis must go down in the scrotum. Sometimes it happens later, and if you still want to buy just this puppy, consult with a veterinarian.

Pay attention to the appearance of a puppy. His hair must be clean, lie exactly, did not have the dirt around the eyes, ears, anus. If these places are soiling then it can talk about the painful secretion and abnormalities in the state of health.

A healthy puppy ща medium and large breeds all calf’s teeth must be cut in 30-40 days. If the puppy is healthy his nose should be able to awake, damp and cold. From mouth it should smell by garlic or chesnochkom or turnip, and the presence of acid, putrid smell should be alert for gastric diseases. It is impossible to determine eye color in the one month age because of puppy skin, but the eye expression should be keen and quick.

The behavior of the puppy in wakefull state should be an active, cheerful, playful. It must take an interest in what is happening around us, flirt with their friends. If you jingle by bunch of keys or clap your hands over small group of puppies, the most active and sensitive ones necessarily be interested, will to crane their necks, even yap. Pay attention to them. Ask the breeder to take puppy off the beds, where his brothers and sisters are. If he is actively trying to return it is a good sign. If the breed allow (small and medium-sized dog), get a puppy for the tail and lift himlow over the beds. Active puppy will squirm and to show displeasure. Passive will hang limp in anticipation of their own destiny. Preferred first.

A useful feature - the presence or absence of pigment spots on valult of throat (the upper part of the oral cavity). Old folk dog-fancier sign reads: . That is, the more dark pigment spots onvalult of throat of puppy, the more vicious an adult dog will be.

Some are trying to choose a big puppy. This is not necessarily, if the dog will participate in the tribal breeding and must meet the standards. Of course, if you buy a puppy for home protection or work where need more physical strength, you need to take the big puppy. But he should not be sleepy, sluggish, apathetic, otherwise you will get larger, but indifferent clodhopper.

Breeding dogs is very tempting if you're a dog lover.  You'll get to spread your passion for the animals and you can even earn an income.  Even so, there is a lot to think about before you get started.

The first thing you need to realize is that your dog might not fit the bill.  You should breed dogs that are from the highest pedigree.  It is also important to make sure they have an even temperament and are without any genetic defects.

For the good of the puppies, never breed a dog that has these problems.  Even if you sense a problem with the uterus you should make sure your pup can cope with the litter and is at least two years old.  If not, it's not a good idea to breed.

If your bitch meets all the requirements you almost have a green light.  Next, you need to consider the puppies that would come out of the breeding.  It is important to be sure you have enough room for 12 puppies in a space that can handle the noise level.

It can be very stressful being there for the birth of these puppies and the process can take over 12 hours.  Beyond that you need to be there to clean up after the dogs, wean them, and feed them.  This food and other materials can end up costing a lot of money.  Don't forget about the vet bills either.

Beyond the first weeks of care you need to figure out what you're going to do with the puppies.  Whether they are mixed breed or pedigree you may want to sell or give them away.  Obviously, a pedigree dog is worth a lot more money to prospective buyers than a mutt.

Make sure you don't just give the puppies away to anyone that walks into your facility.  You need to make sure they are going to a good home.  If you find that they were taken to an undesirable location you might even need to take them back in.

If you've made up your mind that breeding is what you want to do then you can start to look for a stud dog.  If your bitch is pedigree then you want to make sure the stud comes from the same quality background.  You can also examine the female dog's weaknesses and find a stud that will make up for those weaknesses.  For example, one might not have a beautiful coat but you can make up for it with the other.

Just remember that money is not the ultimate goal here.  Breeding quality animals and making sure they have a wonderful life is.  You can have a very fulfilling time as a dog breeder as long as you follow these guidelines.

1. Grooming will take away dead hair and skin.  This will not only remove an unsightly and unwanted mess, it will also improve that air circulation to your dog's coat.  This is essential in the summertime when it's hot and humid.
2. You'll also find that grooming increases the blood flow to hair follicles. In turn, this will improve the health of your dog's whole coat.
3. Grooming also stimulates the lymphatic system, which is similar to the results a human would get from a deep tissue massage.
4. Another benefit of grooming is that it will put your dog in a great mood.  Combine this with your gentle voice and you'll be helping to strengthen the bond that is between you.

5. A benefit that many people don't think about is that you will become more familiar with your dog's body while grooming.  That means you will be able to detect many health problems that might occur.
6. You may find ticks or other insects that are attached to your dog.  These can be very deadly so keep an eye out for them.
7. While you are grooming your pet you will also want to clip their nails.  This will give you a chance to check the pads of their feet to see if there are any problems.

If you don't have the essential grooming materials you can certainly find them at your local pet supply stores.  If you would rather shop online there are many stores that offer the equipment for sale as well.  As an added bonus you will also find a lot of great information and advice on the web.

For those who want to know more, your local community college may offer a program to teach dog owners how to groom.  Dog clubs and other dog related groups might offer training as well.
