Manny's Dodger Teammates Should Be Stern, Not Sympathetic
MIAMI – Manny Ramirez faced the music Friday. It had to sound like Muzak to his penniless, beleaguered psyche.
You know Muzak,
abercrombie and fitch online, the soothing soundtrack you hear in lifts, malls and dentist offices. Ramirez saw teammates for the premier time since he was busted last week for using banned substances.
The meeting was held in a conference room at the team motel. From the sound of entities, they should have just piled all the players, advisers and Ramirez into an elevator and let them have a group hug.
"I excuse him," third baseman Casey Blake said. "It's his business."
No, it's the players' affair, it's the team's business,
MBT salama, it's the fans' business and unfortunately it's business as with with baseball.
A player fools and nobody seems to idea.
Well, not exactly not. Ramirez has become a citizen pi?ata, but he's still untouchable to the people who really matter. Those are his teammates, who went through the usual circling of the carriages nigh the defrocked star.
"I don't consider there was anybody kind of pique," Joe Torre said.
At this point we'd bench for a cordial tisk tisk. I'm all for crew allegiance and putting up a mingled front. But baseball cheaters haven't been horrified along narcotic tests, articulation warnings or Big Bad Bud Selig.
The only true deterrent is peer pressure. How nice would it have been to listen a player wake and narrate Ramirez:
Manny, you know we love you. But you are conceived to be our actuator. The all metropolis of Los Angeles loves you. Now it corners out it was all based on a fraud?
Instead, Manny slinked over from his house, where he's been holed up since getting the 50-game suspension. He wasn't his usual happy-go-Manny ego when he entered the chamber.
"I sensed some uneasiness," Torre said.
It speedily perished. Ramirez shook hands with the boys. There were a lot of sympathetic embraces.
He begged for letting them down, which was hardly a profile in courage. You don't obtain points for act what you're supposed to do.
"I know deep inside him, he's ashamed," coach Mariano Duncan said.
I'm sure Ramirez is apologetic, merely if he'd actually concerned he wouldn't have gotten in this shambles at first. His teammates ought have been furious, or at least frustrated. Instead it's as if Ramirez is the victim here.
"It's like your babies," Torre said. "Even although they do something erroneous you proceed to love them."
Nice likeness, but antagonism how he acts Manny isn't really three annuals old. And when children mess up, it's commonly not behind they've signed a $45 million contract and had an entire marketing campaign built around them.
Mannywood, we hardly knew you. Or at least the real you.
Were you the savant slugger or just dissimilar steroid creation? Are all his achievements tainted?
"That's a nice question," Torre said.
As usual,
wholesale abercrombie & fitch, he didn't offer an response. That would destroy baseball's omerta, the mob-like code of muffle that reserves even the victims of offense from squealing.
A few voices are beginning apt cry in the wilderness. Houston's Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman have been frank approximately exposing the material abusers. They know each time an A-Rod alternatively Clemens gets caught,
nike blazer sale, the misgiving extends to every athlete.
Coddling the cheaters has only made the problem aggravate. If only Ramirez played for the Astros,
abercrombie vest, Friday's conference might have been an small tread for Manny and one
monster leap for baseball.
Instead, it was the same antique melody.
The mountebank faced the music, and all he heard was fiddles.
